Chaga is a large fungus, which grows on trees generally in northern climates and while it can grow on many different trees in most commonly found growing out of birch trees. Chaga does not look like your typical mushroom in the way that most people think of mushrooms as you would see them in a grocery store. Some people mistakenly identify tree burls as chaga however there are distinct ways to differentiate them. While tree burls are outgrowths of the tree themselves and will thus be the same colour of the tree, chaga is generally black in colour with a cracked and brittle looking surface. Under the dark blackened exterior, chaga is a golden-orange colour which is quite distinct. It should look like a completely different species to the tree that it is growing from.

There are many things that chaga can benefit as the mushroom has anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, adaptogenic and anti-oxidant properties. The main active ingredients are polyphenols and flavonoids, which have been shown to help fight cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

The outer crust and inner golden body both contain different medicinal substances. The black outside contains more antioxidant capacity, while the inner golden body has a greater amount of polysacchariedes and beta-glucans . Nutridom Chaga Mushroom Chunk contains both parts of the mushroom to allow customers obtain all of the beneficial effects of chaga.
